RecyClass, the future of plastic is circular!

Since April 2022, Fedrigoni Self-Adhesives has been a member of the RecyClass, the nonprofit, cross-sector initiative promoting plastic packaging recyclability and traceability of recycled plastic in Europe. How? Engaging the players throughout the value chain, establishing a harmonized approach for design for recycling, as well as the calculation and traceability of recycled plastics, and providing reliable certification on the circularity of products.

The latest result of this partnership is the approval of the suitability of our glossy white polyethylene (PE) frontpage, combined with the AP901 water-based acrylic adhesive, with the recycling process of colored, rigid high-density polyethylene (HDPE), i.e., the PE that flasks, jerrycans, bottles for the packaging of many gross distribution products are made of. Compatibility ensures that all HDPE packaging to which a label made from glossy white PE with AP901 adhesive will be applied will maintain its functionality, not interfering with the container recycling process when the set conditions are fulfilled . The recycling test was performed by the Institut für Kunststofftechnologie und -recycling (IKTR) according to the RecyClass Recyclability Evaluation Protocol for HDPE containers. Recycled plastic obtained from the recycling process can be used in high-value applications such as HDPE bottles up to 50% purity level.

Our partnership with RecyClass allows us to improve the circularity of our film-based materials, working on increasingly circular products, to allow brand owners to create packaging more easily recyclable, for which the choice of adhesives and labels is crucial. By combining performance guarantees and attention to our environmental impact, we develop solutions for an increasingly circular label-industry.
Cooperation and partnerships we forge, as well as the monitoring and measurement of our results, aligned with scientific criteria and communicated with rigor and transparency, are crucial in this transformational path.

Another step forward for us and our supply chain.
