September 25, 2015, 193 member states of the United Nations sign the 2030 Agenda pledging to ensure a better present and future for the planet and the people who inhabit it. A global plan of action to 2030 articulated in 17 interconnected, universal and indivisible Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental ones.
An organic vision for holistic wellbeing
17 Goals for 169 targets that cut across a multiplicity of issues, from economic to social development: the fight against poverty and hunger, the right to health and educa-tion, safe access to basic goods such as water and energy, and the right for dignified employment, with a view to inclusive and sustainable economic growth. These goals involve issues related to climate change, environmental protection, urbanization, as well as social and gender equality targets aiming to build fair and peaceful societies.
Perspective we want to strive toward
Fedrigoni officially joined in 2021 the UN Global Compact, which consists of the world’s largest strategic corporate citizenship initiative. In fact, the Global Compact requires participating companies and organizations to share, support and apply a set of 10 key principles in their area of impact which are globally shared and relate to human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anticorruption.
By joining the UN Global Compact, the Group now uses the SDG Action Manager, a tool to objectively measure the company engagement on social and environmental issues, stakeholder engagement and governance, supply chain management, tax matters and government activities, and, of course, the integration of the 17 Goals.
SDG Action Manager supported us in confirming the 5 Goals, which also emerged from the Materiality Matrix update, where we want to make the difference through our direct contribution: Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Earth).
To achieve the goals set for 2030 we are involving also suppliers, partners and cus-tomers we work with. The “Making Progress” approach results in tangible choices, from social impact to circular innovation, engaging the entire ecosystem surrounding Fedrigoni: brands, printers, converters, designers and suppliers. To build a whole re-sponsible and sustainable supply chain.
